I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 18 years of experience in the mental health and social services fields. I received my undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin, and a graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from The University of Houston, Clear Lake. I am currently completing a doctoral degree from St. Mary's University in San Antonio. I have extensive experience working in different settings including psychiatric hospitals, medical facilities, community health centers, pediatric clinics, schools, and residential treatment centers. I offered many years to working with children and families through child protective services, rape crisis centers, shelters, neighborhood centers, and adoption centers. I am experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders including PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety including the management of other symptoms that stem from family/ relationship conflict, social difficulties, poor school performance, and violence/ abuse. I am trained in Trauma Focused - Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Parent- Child Interaction, Mindfulness, Play Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Marriage and Family Therapy, Couples Therapy and Group Therapy. I was born and raised in central New Jersey where I earned my Bachelor degree in Psychology through Kean University. I then achieved my Master Degree in Mental Health Counseling through Capella University. I moved to Texas a little over 3 years ago. I have several years of experience and knowledge in assessing, diagnosing and treating symptoms of depression, anxiety, anger, substance abuse, PTSD, ADHD, Psychosis, poor self-esteem, trauma and poor social skills. I also work with individuals diagnosed with Autism and implementing ABA. I have extensive experience serving the community through child and family mental health clinics, group home settings, but also have experience working with the school system. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), but I am also a Certified Elementary, Special Education and ESL Teacher, and have experience teaching and working with the school system with individuals with developmental, learning difficulties and emotional disturbance, and participating in ARD meetings, IEP, PPCD and 504 programs. I can guide you and your child and be a strong advocate for your family through the school system, the legal system and CPS. I have also worked at a substance abuse recovery center in both inpatient and IOP programs and am currently waiting on my renewal as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC). I have knowledge and experience implementing Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Emotion Focused Therapy.
I received my undergraduate degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling and my graduate degree in Human Resource Counseling from East Central University in Oklahoma. Soon after, I obtained my License in Professional Counseling. I have extensive experience working with inpatient and outpatient facilities, residential treatment centers, shelters, mobile crisis units, Emergency rooms and juvenile detention centers. I have offered many years to working with children, adolescents and adults experiencing crisis, trauma, and severe mental illness. I have not only worked directly with patients and clients, but I have also lead and supervised many of these programs and coordinated and trained many health professionals. I am certified as a Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and a Problematic Sexual Behavioral Adolescent Offender Counselor.
I am a board certified adult, child and adolescent psychiatrist. I received my medicine degree from King Edward Medical University, Lahore, Pakistan. I moved to US to pursuit graduate education in Medicine. I joined a research team at New York Psychiatric Institute Columbia University, NY. I was particularly interested in transfer of trauma stress from first responder parents to their children in context of World Trade Center attacks. I also participated in research at Beth Israel Medical Center, NY related to development of scales to assess probability of impulsive suicide attempts. I was accepted for my Adult General Psychiatry residency training at UMDNJ, The University Hospital in Newark, NJ. I received training in substance abuse, Adult PTSD, Depression and schizophrenia management in multiple settings. I worked with Veterans and have special interest and expertise in Post-traumatic stress disorder management. I completed my subspecialty training in child and adolescent psychiatry from Tufts Medical Center, Boston, MA. I received excellent training from specialty renowned supervisors in evaluation of treatment of behavioral problems in children. I am well experienced in evaluation and management of ADHD, Autism spectrum disorders, Depression, Bipolar disorder, Anxiety, Borderline personality disorder and adolescent substance abuse disorders. I am also well trained in use of psychotherapeutic techniques e.g. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal therapy, Family therapy, Parent-Child interaction therapy, Dialectical Behavioral therapy. I have also received training and am certified in treatment of opiate dependence with Suboxone.
I have extensive experience in Customer Service, Human Resources, Finances, Invoicing and Estimating, Merchandising and Sales, Coordinating, Organizing and Training of personnel and Marketing. I am a current student of The University of Houston Clear Lake and will be graduating this May with a Bachelor Degree in Psychology. I plan on obtaining a Master Degree, and soon after, my license to become a licensed therapist. I have a strong work ethic and I am passionate about serving our community.
